Kids of the Kingdom

Founders: Lesslie Pursley & Erica Tucker

Kids of the Kingdom is a fast-paced environment where students with special needs can have fun, maintain friendships, and continue their academic progress. The camp is a program that two special education teachers in the Rock Hill community are starting to help bridge the transition from one school year to the next for students with special needs. Mrs. Pursley and Ms. Tucker teach Developmentally Delayed Kindergarten at India Hook Elementary School and have worked with children with varying disabilities in their classroom. The teachers decided to create a camp that would keep the students on a schedule and continue the acquisition of skills. The key to helping students with special needs is EARLY INTERVENTION and CONSISTENCY.

DHF is sponsoring the camp with $1000 in monetary support,
reducing camp fees. The foundation has also paid for the Pernell twins to attend. Learn more about the family here.

8:30 Center Rotations
We work on what your child needs, but include activities that focus on fine motor/prewriting, language concepts, math concepts, starting/completing tasks independently, observational skills, sitting behaviors, and lateral thinking skills.  All will be individualized to your student.

**A light snack will be included at the end of this rotation**

 10:00 Language Circle
Unit activities incorporate an integrated curriculum in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  We focus on activities that build their language and incorporate extending their vocabulary and sentences.

 10:30 Center Rotations

Throughout, the day, students will receive continual support on toilet training.  Individualized objectives are taught and reinforced throughout the day.  We work on following routines and verbal directions.  Each week will have a specific theme and all activities and crafts will be related to the theme.
