Where Kids can PLAY, CONNECT,
and learn TOGETHER

  

What is All American Athletes?

It is a Recreational Special Needs Sports League for children ages 5-13 with identified disabilities.  The league will offer a structured setting where these students can learn the basics of sports and engage in social relationships outside of school.  Baseball will be offered in the Fall of 2009 and Spring of 2010.    

Where:  Boyd Hill Community Center

Off of Constitution Boulevard.   

When:  Thursdays in September from 6:00-7:30

Players will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All American Athletes is also looking for Buddies

Buddy Job Description:

You will be paired up with an athlete that will be your buddy for the duration of the sports season.  You will work one on one with your buddy to teach them the basics of the sports and HELP them become as independent as possible in the league.  You are NOT to do the sport for the child, but to teach the child how to play the sport independently.  You will be teaching skills such as ball handling, rules of the game, good sportsmanship, and social skills. 

Children in this league my communicate in different ways including:

pulls you to object,  puts your hand on objects,  brings object, brings pictures,  pushes people/objects away,  points,  shakes head (yes/no),  sign language,  vocalizes (whines, fusses) , vocalizes (babbles)  vocalizes (single words), or vocalizes (short phrases).  

Children in this league may engage in different behaviors including:

odd repetitive mannerisms, other repetitive behaviors, intense interests, difficulty staying on tasks, high/low activity level, overreacts/under reacts to touch or sound, difficulty changing routine, under reacts or overreacts to pain, self-injurious behaviors, and/or tics.

Your job is to help these kids gain an invaluable life experience where they can gain learn important life skills through the participation of a sport!  Your willingness to help in this league is wonderful and we are so grateful to you for being willing to give of your time!
